Workshop I. Digital Photography Basics (Your Camera and You)
April 18 / 9:30AM – 12:30PM

Give me three hours and I’ll give you command of your digital camera. You’ll understand the dials, buttons and menus on your point-and-shoot or digital SLR camera. With humor, exuberance, plain language, and vivid examples, I’ll give you the tools to capture images of nature, family, pets, sports, artwork, sunsets, landscapes or any of your own digital aspirations.

No longer will you set the camera to “AUTO” and hope for the best. No camera is off limits, no participant too inexperienced.

Fee: $35 (includes handouts). Pre-registration is mandatory.

Sign up at the AVA Gallery’s website.

Workshop II. Digital Shooting Session
April 18 / 1:30-4:30PM

Registration is now closed for the second workshop. I hope to offer both of these in late spring around Montpelier.

Spend a half-day in a small group shooting indoors and outside with Bryan. This session covers standard shooting opportunities: portraits, landscapes, nature, macro, odd lighting. It works for point-and-shoot cameras or digital SLR cameras and your various lenses.

We begin indoors with a short lecture. Then we put our cameras to work together in a series of “shooting stations” – each designed to inform you on topics that include, ISO, metering, white balance, motion, depth of field, macro photography, harsh lighting, and other photographic challenges.

Before the course, I’ll contact students individually to discuss their cameras and their personal photographic predilections and aspirations.

Prerequisite: Digital Workshop I at the AVA Gallery and Art Center that morning or complete knowledge of your camera’s features and how to adjust them on the fly.

Fee: $50 per person
Class limit: 10 participants. Pre-registration is mandatory.

Sign up at the AVA Gallery’s website.

Bryan Pfeiffer’s photography has appeared in books, magazines and newspapers, in calendars, at galleries, and even around the world on CNN. Bryan’s workshops blend humor and exuberance for effective learning. Hundreds of mystified camera owners have become proficient photographers after Bryan’s workshops – here in Vermont and as far as Grand Canyon National Park.

By the way, you cannot necessarily capture the vivid top version of this sunrise shot in AUTO mode or without knowing how your camera reads light.

Contact Bryan with questions about these workshops.

I took Bryan’s beginning course a couple of years ago and it changed my picture taking experience forever. Almost gone are the days of not wanting to waste film. It is still a bad habit. The shots are now easier to plan and get what I wanted to see. When my daughter uses my camera she still puts the camera into auto mode. Children, they just can’t be taught by their parents. Thank you Bryan.

All signed up for your classes Bryan. Can’t wait. If I bring my copy of Birdwatching in Vermont would you sign it for me?

Looking forward to taking the morning class with you, Bryan! I tried for the afternoon one as well, but it was already full 🙁 . My husband is coming along with me, but not for the class. Now we just need to find a place to stay for a couple of nights and we’ll be all set! I am super excited about doing this. I’ve been taking nature photographs (dragonfly’s, birds, etc.) for years, but need to fine tune them. I use a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. It’s a wonderful camera, but definitely has issues focusing when shooting closeups. I’m hoping to get some help with that if possible. See you next month

    Hello Bryan.
I am very interested in your morning class. I have a Canon Power Shot SC50 HS camera and I am a rookie. Do you think this class would work for me. I would like to come with my niece Sally Leavitt who has signed up for both the classes. Tell me what you think.
    Thank you,
    Maryella Rawnsley

  5. Awesome! Thanks for the heads up, Bryan. Signed up for both a few minutes ago. Took a class with you a couple of years ago and it really improved my bird photos. Looking forward to this set of classes…
