Although there are far more important matters in life to celebrate, and even as the extraction and burning of fossil fuels bring so much privilege, enjoyment and misery to the world, my 2004 Toyota Tacoma traveled its 200,000th mile in Maine, NY, yesterday during the Northeast regional gathering of the Dragonfly Society of the Americas. We have gone far together, this truck and me.

So as you endure the obligatory images of a guy, his truck and an odometer, at least you might enjoy a festive Calico Pennant (Celithemis elisa) from Greenwood Park in Broome County, NY, as part of the celebration. (And no worries about that check-engine light.)

Of all the vehicles I have ever owned, the Tacoma was my favorite. I still miss it.

  2. Just wanted to know why you chose to pose this milestone in front of a cemetery????? john

Wow! I am very impressed that you managed to take a photo exactly as the odometer hit 200,000. Hope you pulled over! You are one dedicated photographer, Bryan!

I had a mile leeway — and sort of planned it out. But it was a nice spot. I hear people were dying to get into that cemetery. 🙂

My 1998 Honda CRV and I passed the 200K mark this month, too, in Loveland, CO. A special moment for us both…and my check engine light was on, too! Instead of candles?!

Congratulations, Bryan! May you have many more miles, many more dragonflies, and tell us many more stories!

Obviously I like your truck since I also have a Tacoma. But, I am extremely envious of your shot of the Calico! What a fantastic shot Bryan. You have got to have a spell over these insects that allows for such great images. Just dealing with the traditional Skimmers here in Middlebury – I need to get away more often, or take a field course with a pro!!!!

Nice. Each of the photos has a story to tell.
